Christian Dior Spring09 Couture..... Mr. Galliano does it AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Today in Paris the world was to witness to John Galliano creating a collection that is so remarkable, so beautiful, and so extraordinary that it left you breathless. After the show backstage he was asked,"What are your inspirations?" then asked, "And what do you think about the recession?" John Galliano's answers were "Flemish painters and Monsieur Dior," and to the point, "There's a credit crunch, not a creative crunch. Of course, everyone is being more careful with their discretionary purchases. I am. But it's our job to make people dream, and to provide the value in quality, cut, and imagination." And that he did.....

Are you a leader or a follower?

Today I am wearing a multi-plaid patchwork wool vest and vintage black trousers I found for $10. I'm really a big fan of vintage clothing as you can see. I may work for Barneys but I'm not one of their big clients. I truly believe that you can give the look for less. However I do love couture and designer clothing but I live on a budget, and I have learned how to have GREAT STYLE. To me real fashionistas/fashionistos shops everywhere. I even shop and re-shop my own closet, putting things together that I've never worn together before. Now don't get me wrong I do shop at Barneys but not for everything. One day I may be wearing Prada shoes, a kiton tie and a vintage suit I found that cost $7.....and it's okay to do so. Mix it! It keeps it interesting and fun. Think out of the box when it comes to fashion. It's time to stop being a follower and be a fashion leader. Most style makers have a "do what you feel attitude" when it comes to fashion. Remember fashion is an emotion not a thought in your head. So stop thinking so much and do what you feel.

What's in your CLOSET?

Someone recently asked me "What was the one thing that every woman needed in her closet?". Well, the first thing that came to mind was CONFIDENCE....... A woman can walk into a room wearing a potato sack, if she does it with confidence (and the right accessories) others will follow. They'll think that she meant to do that...... If only women would realize this, they would save so much heartache over not being like what they see in the magazines. To wish you were someone else is to waste the person you are. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, let's work with what we got.
It really starts with confidence. Most of the fashionistas we follow in the fashion world all posses the same characteristic. The dictionary defines confidence as" a feeling or consciousness of one's powers". Now, if you have that then you need anything else...... So if you aren't wearing the most important thing in your closet then take it out, dust it off and put it on. Wear it like you wear your fiercest pair of shoes. You know the one's that make you like like a DIVA....... Patricia Fields and the girls from SEX and the City are a perfect example. She is responsible for more women putting forth a greater effort, but making it look as though it was effortlessly done. However we all have a little Pat Fields in us. She made it ok for women to take more fashion risks. Its what I call that "DO WHAT YOU FIELDS FASHION"........

Isabel Toledo this is your moment.....this is your time!

I bet that when Isabel Toledo woke up on Tuesday morning she had no idea that she would be a part history. In fact part of one the biggest history making days of our life time. Mrs. Obama chose her design to wear as her inauguration ceremony ensemble. Mrs. Obama couldn't have made a better choice. It was timeless, elegant, and just enough without being too much. IT WAS PERFECT!!!!!!
I meet Isabel and her husband Reuben about 2yrs ago at Barneys. We had our FASHION in the Park event and she was the featured designer. At the time she was designing for Anne Klein. It was an attempt to breath new life into that brand. However she was bigger than the line. Shortly after the show in Dallas, they announce that she would no longer be designing for the brand. I was glad because she was to FABULOUS for that line and what they(Anne Klein) were attempting to do with the brand.
Yesterday we had a client that stopped by to see the collection and was appalled that we didn't carry it. In fact she asked, WHY!!!! Well I had to explain to her how buyers purchase far in advance than the season that we are in. I felt as though I had offended her. She just wanted to see it as though it was a museum exhibit. Now if this is any indication as to the future of Isabel Toledo then her future is definitely bright.

LANVIN NEVER LETS ME DOWN!!!!!!!!!

I was never the kind of little boy that watched sports, played sports, or even cared anything about sports. I can remember staying up watching Fashion Trance on FASHION TV all night long. It was a channel dedicated to nothing but fashion. They played all the runway shows from the current season. I was in heaven. At the time fashion was the only thing that interested me. So here we are 25yrs later and I am still up late at night with fashion on my mind. I love seeing the shows. All the girls stomping down the runway to beat of music that sent them into a walking frenzy. I love seeing the collection come to life right before my eyes. Take a look at the Lanvin Spring 09 collection and see if this does not prove that video is so much better that still photos. I LOVE LANVIN!!!!!!!!!! Albert Elbaz never lets me down.... Each season just gets better and better.
